On Friday 20th April 2007, there were two equally shocking crimes but different criminal judgements.
A man was rightly jailed for four months after admitting organising dog fights at his home in Birmingham (link).
Appalling though, a mother who goaded her two toddlers to fight each other on video camera was only given a 12-month suspended sentence (link). This was along with her mother and two sisters.
This raises two points. Firstly, why the different types of sentences when any sane person would see that some form of custodial sentence had to be handed out to these women, especially when a man gets four months for arranging dog fights
Secondly, if it were men organising and filming such a horrific event with their children I would bet my house on it that they would have gone to prison.
In a previous post (7th April 2007), the issue of not sending women to prison was raised by an unofficial Home Office review. It looks like it is being into practise.
