The rally annoying thing about this is the Equal Opportunities Commission's various research reports on this are very clear: The main issue is the different jobs men and women do. Women predominate in a few sectors(where they are usually the majority) A lot of this has little to do with anything other than people choosing work they want to do. In effect there is no difference in young people's pay. The differences appear once women choose to leave work to be mothers. With the high price of housing i'm sure fewer will do this in future and the "gap" will close as most women work over the same period and pattern as men.
