Maybe the advertising industry (that includes you MFI- link) can take a leaf out of SMA Nutrition who have been broadcasting a run of very pro-male, pro-father adverts over the past few months.
The adverts have a voiceover of a man proudly declaring his love for his wife/girlfriend for giving birth to his child.
This is wholly against the trend in the last decade where a succession of male bashing adverts have been run.
SMA should be congratulated and a clip of the advert is on YouTube here:-
Hear, hear! As a doting father of an 11 year old who has taken full responsibility for the care of my son, I am disgusted when he and I both have to watch the succession of male-bashing ads we see time and again.
I used to work in advertising and see no economic (or other) reason why men have to always be portrayed as the idiots in every single ad. We are protrayed as the 'comic relief' who even has his kids sniggering at him. The mum is always the hero. Why not even things out?
I, for one, find I have to redress the balance to my son to point out this bias, to avoid him having self-esteem issues in the future.
Even the kids programs he still watches or cartoons always feature the father as an imbecile (especially the American ones).
Is it any wonder that our lads are doing so poorly at secondary school?
Everywhere around them the 'role models' on TV (taht they spend hours in front of), are so pathetic they are teaching boys to believe that they are fools.
When will this rot end? The reason men and women were created was because the world needs both of us. We are equal - each better at certain things, but equal all the same.
Keep up the great blog!

I realise this is an old post but I actually disliked the SMA series of adverts; it portrays men as having to change things about themselves and be more thoughtful while the women are perfect and saintly. I don't think that's a good message to send.
