In an article in the Irish Times at the weekend Ireland's President, Mary McAleese, 'called on the Irish people to be “nosy neighbours” so as to ensure an end to domestic abuse of the old, the young, women and men.'
Please note the last word in the quote.
Obviously the Irish President believes that all victims of domestic violence should be mentioned in any coverage of the issue (she obviously takes note of the excellent Amen Project). When is the last time you have ever seen a member of the UK Government mention men as victims of domestic violence in such an unprompted way. Never.
We really are so incredibly backward in the Uk with regards to issues such as this, particularly in relation to government policy and approach.
So many different countries are so far ahead of us, and actually respect and recognise male victims.
Domestic violence truly is not a gender issue, it is an issue for everyone.
