The X Foundation is looking for men to help us drag the issue of prostate cancer into the spotlight by dressing up as a women for The Great Drag Race, a fabulously flamboyant 10.2km sponsored walk/run and afternoon jolly to be held in London Fields on Saturday the 19th of June. The distance represents one long stride for each of the 10,200 men lost to the disease each year, and all sponsorship money raised will go directly to Prostate Cancer Research Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Support Federation.
You can find out more by visiting the website (http://thegreatdragrace.org) or by watching this short clip from the accompanying documentary: http://thexfoundation.org/#/the-great-drag-race-movie/4540140466
Here are 7 things you should know:
1. Prostate cancer kills nearly as many men as breast cancer kills women, yet it receives a tenth of the funding and a fraction of the media coverage. It's time for men to do something about it - even if they have to dress up as women to get the same kind of attention!
2. Many of our chaps will be walking the 10.2km, so you don't need to start an intensive training regime.
3. All sponsorship money raised goes to straight to the charities and will be hugely appreciated, but the main aim in our first year is to persuade as many men as possible to dress up and come along. Just register now, pay the £10 entry fee, and you can take part.
4. It's going to be a lot of fun and you might get into the Guinness Book of World Records.
5. We need women too! Please consider putting your name down to be a steward or helper on the day.
6. You can join the official Facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=265283035499
7. If you still need convincing, we hope you'll watch this very short film about ten amazing men who'll be taking part: http://thexfoundation.org/#/the-great-drag-race-movie/4540140466.

Please help us spread the word about The Great Drag Race. And, if you really can't make it on June 19th, why not consider making a small donation to our First Eleven: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/firsteleven

I'm generally against single sex events like this, just look at Race for LIfe and the associated problems there.
This is of course very different in that it's dealing with a male specific condition AND an organisation focused on that condition.
I absolutely love the message they're using that men have to dress up as women to get attention and a decent amount of funding. It's actually highlighting sexism which is something that has to be applauded.
Good luck to all those taking part.

I like it. Raising money for a vital cause, raising awareness, and making a bold political statement in favour of men and against the sexist hypocrisy of the medical profession and the system at the same time.
Choosing the distance of 10.2 km to represent one metre for every unecessarily wasted male life is a good touch too. I wonder how the distance will vary in future events - assuming there will be future repeats. My prediction is that it will stay about the same into the forseeable future.
Now let's see if any big corporate sponsors come forward, and if the event gets any media coverage beyond a pic or two in the local rag. I am not holding my breath.
