Last year John Kimble wrote a great article about Cancer Research UK and its Race for Life which bans men from participating - an event this year sponsored and promoted by Tesco.
John Taylor who has been campaigning for over a decade to make the event gender neutral and in the name of equality allow men to participate. In this letter (Download CRUK and its discriminatory race for life _Mar 11_) he gives a summary of recent events in his quest for equality.

Further to my propsals for Race for Life in the main article, I stress:
All the venue costs are / should be covered for Race for Life;
The application forms could be bi-sexual;
It protects the Race for Life brand;
It will allow males who want to participate in a 5 or 10K to do so - with males - not females;
It will overcome the long-standing blatant sex discrimination, throughout the UK, against males & indicate that CRUK cares...
It will provide the opportunity for males to participate in either a 5 or 1OK, event, throughout the UK;
Also, overcome the demise of the 5K Run for Moore - when some males indicated they wanted more challenging events than a 5K - not all males are fit enough for anything longer...
By now holding (40) 10K events for females - CRUK increased the discrimination against males...

Go to the CRUK cancer chat site for some recent updates in the ongoing debate, including a series of comments from me under the name parmenter. Although to be more accurate it has become less of a debate and more a case of banging your head against a brick wall. CRUK seem to be brain dead on this issue and won't budge from their crazy and divisive stance.

Hi Paul,
My congratulations on your recent comments on Cancer Chat - "Is Race for Life Sexist?"
...In Post 291, I submitted a question:
" A polite message, to the CEO and Executive Fund Raising Director, CRUK" :
I would just like to state that I applaud all past participants in Race for Life, for the millions raised - but, sadly, many can be afflicted, or die, from The Big C. Do you believe CRUK should allow their male relatives to participate in similar 5 or 10k events, if they want to - in memory of their deceased female relatives? Will you pose this question to all the females?

Re: Is Race For Life Sexist ??
Hello Jane...
Further to my previous comments which, I trust, are being considered by the powers that be ?...
I now refer you to: The £10,000 Decade of Hope Appeal - for Cancer Research UK. The details can be read in the links below (from two different papers):
http://www.gazetteherald.co.uk/archive/2011/03/04/Theatre+%28p_whatson_theatre%29/8890371.Chloe_Shipley____s_concert_of_Hope/
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/leisure/theatre/8890371.Chloe_Shipley____s_concert_of_Hope/
I sincerely hope that CRUK adopts my proposals re males being allowed to participate in optional (240 UK) 5 or 10K (male) Race for Life events.
By doing so, CRUK will, eventually, increase the £10, 000 to £millions. Similar to the London Marathon and Great North Run - in which males and females participate together with tremendous success.
Had my daughter not died on 17th August 2001 - "The Decade of Hope" would never have been launched.
Best wishes,
John
