END OF EQUAL AND BLIND JUSTICE MOVES EVER CLOSER

One of the discriminatory issues that is gathering momentum is the campaign not to want to send women convicted of non-violent offences to prison. The issue flickers intermittently onto the political stage  (and here and here) but now this is becoming a reality.

Part of the impetus is Vickie Pryce's release after spending a mere two months in prison of a eight month sentence. Janet Street Porter's article summed up the attitude.

And the sexism comes in two forms from these so called 'equality' campaigning hypocrites.

Firstly, it is based on the fact that the argument only relates to female non-violent offenders and never to male non-violent offenders. So this is not really about equality, it is about female special treatment with men victims of discrimination by ommission.

Secondly, the articles and arguments relate to mothers and their children. Firstly, it assumes that if a female prisioner has children, the father cannot cope. Secondly, what if a father is on his own with children and is convicted - does he get any special treatment and lastly, it is the cake and eat it syndrome.

Female equality campaigners want women to be treated the same and that men and women should share the same responsibilities as part of the family unit. If that is is the case, those self-same campaigners cannot ask for special treatment for women with children. You cannot argue that men and women are equals in the family unit on one hand and then on the other say they are not when it suits them.

Cathy Newman's article summed up much of this attitude (see follow up of this sad tale but it also affects men too).

The Prison Reform Trust has launched a campaign in Parliament it gives real impetus. This supposedly gender neutral organisations seems to have forgotten that gender should be blind when it comes to justice.

And we all know the success of campaigns in keeping women out of prision have in the real world. As this sickening case shows.

Doesn't sound very good. I'm against modern feminism but will be less likely to come here if this is the tone I find.

Bear in mind that people will judge - however unfairly - that we are all crazies if they read that kind of thing, and then won't be receptive to what we have to say. There are many people who *might* be interested otherwise.

Good post Skimmington, a journalist on one of the left-wing papers, forgotten which one, also analysed the stats and found that most mothers didn't even have custody of their kids before they went into the prison. Which makes a mockery of the primary-care giver excuse as well. Often it appears the press don't care if its truth or lies that they're peddling, more churnalism than journalism.

I agree NotSurprisedUK. It is the media and their lack of integrity that is the real driver behind the current misandry in the media. They bombard the airwaves and newspapers with such a torrent of sexism that any real rational debate is drowned out and all that remains is their anti-men agenda.

Fake equality organisations or so-called neutral organisations become infiltrated by people with a hidden agenda, who distupt the debate and effort to secure equal rights when it comes to men.
