NEWS UPDATE - THE CRACKS ARE STARTING TO SHOW

There has been a substantial amount of coverage on men's issues this past ten days and below is a summary of the main articles. The cracks are just starting to show in the war against men.

Daily Telegraph - Equalities Minsiter says women need to challenge themselves and play a wider role in society (Rowena Mason): What is significant here is that this and the above article show that some women are now challenging the myths and hypocrisy of quotas which we know are solely being advocated as a discriminatory measure against men, meritocracy and equality.

Daily Telegraph - Companies to be forced to publish gender audits of employees (Louisa Peacock): does this count for the public sector which is dominated by women? The comment in the Telegraph comments section sums it up:

"Yet more discrimination against my white English husband who supports his family and has never been unemployed in his life"

Feminism

Netmums - What does feminism mean to the modern women: The research showed that only 17% of women described themselves as feminists (though more young women did which shows their radicalisation), that modern-day feminism did not represent them and that 28% felt it was too aggressive with 17% thinking it was anti-male. CHERYL COLE THE LATEST IN A LONG LINE OF FEMALE POP STARS GUILTY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

If one issue in our times illustrates the terrible double standards faced by men, it's that of domestic violence. A prominent and topical issue is the differing ways violent and abusive pop stars are treated depending on their gender. For example, it seems barely a day goes by without some feminists condemning Chris Brown for domestic violence, and we even have a campaign of feminists vandalising CDs highlighting artists who allegedly beat women.

At the very same time we've seen female abusers openly admit to their violence and even commit it on camera, yet the media never see it as notable and certainly not wrong. This same attitude is found in the rest of society, such as in the police and justice system.

The latest major female artist to admit to domestic violence is Cheryl Cole, but you won't see any headlines condemning it. The Daily Mail has the information under a headline about her injecting vitamins into her rear end, so it's clear that domestic violence by famous women against famous men is less newsworthy than such a practice (if your'e interested, apparently the injection didn't even have much of an effect anyway). The Mail do at least report the information though, stating she admitted "shaking him, kicking him, scratching his face, pushing and shoving him like I was a lunatic". The Sun newspaper reports more details such as the following admission "I hit him in the face — I couldn’t help it". So there we go then, Cheryl Cole not only commits domestic violence against her husband, she seems rather unapologetic about the whole thing and it appears somehow she is so dangerous and out of control she is unable to stop herself from such acts and it is the victim's fault.

Just imagine if a male singer female in such a way, we'd never hear the end of it, particularly if he also had a history of violence. If I've I've missed anyone, particularly feminists,  or a domestic violence charity condemning her then perhaps someone can add ti to the comments section, I certainly can't find anything though. All the media reports appears to do is portray her as the victim and allow her to excuse and give the impression violence by women is entirely justified in cases of infidelity.

Remember, unlike with cases that often hit the headlines form time to time, we aren't talking about mere, unproven allegations of domestic violence here and one persons' word against another's. Cheryl Cole has admitted to her crimes in her book and is making money off such material. Given her previous conviction, perhaps the police should have a read of it?

Anyway, for the benefit of those adding stickers to CDs of artists who commit domestic violence, here's a few you seem to have missed:

Quite an impressive line up, I wonder how many albums they've sold combined? The last individual on that list even has a domestic violence centre named after her (and I don't mean one for male victims as recompense for her crimes).

Update, thanks to "TDOM" in the comment section for pointing out the following important detail I missed:

According to Cheryl, Ashley's mistress was quoted on the internet stating "The girl said Ashley had been so drunk he couldn’t walk straight — that he was incoherent and that he was vomiting during the sex."

This indicates that this was not just an affair, but that the woman sexually assaulted him. in many jurisdictions, being incapacitated by drugs or alcohol means that he could not have consented to sex. So not only was he sexually assaulted, but he was beaten by his wife for being sexually assaulted.

NO EQUALITY IN BRITAIN'S JUSTICE SYSTEM

The Daily Mail reported this awful story today where Beverley Jones from Swansea committed a terrible act of domestic abuse against her husband and walked away with a two year community order instead of going to prison. 

Can you imagine the judge making the same decision of the genders were reversed - it would be two years in prison for the man else there would be a lynch mob led by Women's Aid, Refuge and Fawcett Society.

It shows that those that advocate (first article listed here and this one too) that women should not be in prison are seeing their 'argument' turned into a reality by the judiciary.

It is an unhappy coincidence that S4 Wales is running a documentary about male victims maybe the sexist judge should have seen this before passing judgement.

Sorry all, maybe away a bit, so here are a few

BBC Radio 4 and 5 - Women's and Men's Hour

Telegraph and BBC (et al) - Male politicians getting it wrong on rape and  Louise Mensch MP calls for female justice miniser (Louise Mensch MP): Firstly, we have a female Home Secretary/Minister for Women and a female Minister for Equalities. Secondly, this is sexist anyway as it is saying that a man could not possibly take rape/sexual assualt seriously.

Lastly, Mrs Mensch's hypocrisy (who is retiring as a MP) knows no bounds as she said it was right for the Sun to print the Prince Harry photo's. While that is an article for another day, but would she be happy with the same pictures of Zara Phillips or Princess' Eugenie or Beatrice were published like this. Breathtaking stuff. Not helped though by people like Galloway!

The Guardian - Pale, male and stale (Vera Baird): Failed politician who was Harman's henchwomen in the last givernement calls for special treatment and sexism against men who have the temerity to want to be a crime and police commissioner. She is the Labour candidate in Northumbria - heaven help the men there if she gets elected. The police will not be allowed to arrest a women and all men will be arrested just for being men.

NOW VIRGIN AUSTRALIA THINKS ALL MEN ARE PAEDOPHILES

Some readers may have missed the news this week of Virgin Australia being the latest airline exposed as believing all men are paedophiles who cannot be trusted to sit next to unaccompanied children. This type of misandry in airlines goes back at least 12 years now and we've covered it plenty of times before, for example when British Airways were forced to withdraw the policy by equality hero Mirko Fischer.

Virgin say they are going to "review" the policy, but to m even that's unacceptable. I know it's sexist, as do readers, as do they, and when discriminating like this in such a disgusting and harmful manner then the only logical and decent action is to stop immediately and apologise. Some of the news coverage has been particularly good this time around, and it's interesting how the story has spread to different countries, so rather than say any more I'll simply share some of the links with you:

Just another part of the movement that believes that justice should not be gender blind and that equality only means equality when it suits.

"Women experience an average of 35 incidents of domestic violence before reporting an incident to the police" - 31 years old and not even British

When Kier Starmer, the Director for Public Prosecutions gave a speech this week about the success in ending violence against women and girls he threw a token to those who feel the CPS pays lip service to supporting men and boys with regard to sexual and domestic violence. Perhaps he and his speechwriters read this site as he said this below when before he has said nothing:

"In recognising these dynamics the CPS does not neglect abuse directed towards men or perpetrated by women. Male victims receive the same access to protection and legal redress and the gender of the perpetrator does not make a difference to the CPS approach to bringing offenders to justice. All of our existing policies are gender neutral, and are applied fairly and equitably to all victims of crime and all defendants are prosecuted in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors."

They are still mere crumbs from the table.

One BBC report on the speech quoted him as saying "Most victims of domestic violence suffer in silence - Mr Starmer said a woman would on average be assaulted 30 times before she sought help." There is no evidence in any of the press releases that he said this.

However, being naturally inquisitive, I remembered seeing a figure often quoted that says " Women experience an average of 35 incidents of domestic violence before reporting an incident to the police."  Even the CPS have used it - but so does practically everyone else it would seem.

So is it true (it could be higher or lower) and more importantly, in the name of equality, what is the male figure?

After much hunting around the web and looking for the source (via Women's Aid and Refuge) the source is Jaffe 1982. So already this statistic commonly used today is actually 30 years old!

The source is Canadian academic Dr. Peter G Jaffe and the research paper is called An integrated response to wife assault : a community model.

Some sources say 1982 and others say 1984, but let's stick to 1982 if this is the one quoted by many. However, we know the research took place in 1981.

So here we have it.

A figure used in 2012 by a myriad of statutory authorities in the UK about the number of times a woman is assaulted before she calls the police is based on a statistic that is not only 31 years old it is not even based on British research - it is from Canada.

The figure could be higher - it could be lower - as it could be for men but there is no equivalent available. 1981 is pure Jurassic age when it comes to recognising male victims.

So here we have a one-sided statistics, used continuously to create and justify a one-sided position on domestic abuse (women are the only victims) and those who use it do not even bother to find an up-to-date figure let alone one that relates to Britain.

It says so much about those who believe their ideology must come before telling the truth and telling it in a balanced and equal way.

Any authority that uses this figure as if it is recent and from Britain is now instantly discredited.

CLARE'S LAW - HOW THE GOVERNMENT ENTRENCHES DISCRIMINATION AGAINST MALE VICTIMS

At the beginning of the week, the government announced that it was to pilot Clare's Law in Gwent and Wiltshire - this is the scheme that places men and women who have (or have alleged to have) committed domestic abuse crimes.

As the BBC reported, Refuge claim it will make no difference because most perpetrators are not known to police and others state it will lead to false allegations. Of course, this will be the case and false allegations themselves are a form of domestic abuse. Also others such as the ManKind Initiative have said if it is to go ahead it should called Clare and Clive's Law and this has been covered on this site.

And this is the point about the institutional discrimination against men.

The law and the register applies to men and women, yet the government does all it can to purposely misrepresent this by omitting it - discrimination by omission.

Firstly, if you name something Clare's Law then automatically you are setting it out as only for one gender.

But worse, the press release says:

• "Under the scheme women will have the right to ask the police whether a new or existing partner has a violent past": Wrong - it is women and men.

 

• Home Secretary Theresa May said: 'Domestic violence is a dreadful crime which sees two women a week die at the hands of their partners, and millions more suffer years of abuse in their own homes: Wrong - it is also one man per fortnight

The press release and obvious briefing over the weekend means the media follow this line so the Daily Mail , Daily Express and Daily Telegraph only mention men.

But the police don't share this view - the clip here from Gwent uses the term partner as does the Acpo lead on the Home Office press release. Sonia Poulton is sound in using men and women.

So why does the government in the same as launching a film aimed at male victims of forced marriage still refuse to recognise male victims of domestic abuse exist. They are sexist - what other logical reason could there be?

FORCED MARRIAGE VIDEO FOR MALE VICTIMS

The Forced Marriage Unit have continually made the point that men can be also victims of focred marriage. Their latest statistics show that 22% of men are.

They also have produced a video about a man facing this hideous crime.
